Supplementary Security Income (SSI)

Programs: Disability | SSI

SSI benefits are available to people who are disabled but have not paid enough in to Social Security to qualify for Disability benefits. In addition, income and asset limits apply. A single person, for example, can have no more than about $700 per month in income and $2000 in assets to qualify for SSI.

Attorneys cannot assist in filing SSI claims. However, once an SSI claim is denied, an attorney can file an appeal and represent a claimant at a hearing.
